This proposed site amalgamation reopens conditions for the rehabilitation of this area.
When you look at how other quarries are rehabilitated like St Mary’s , Innerkip, Port Colborne,
and compare it to how sparse the rehabilitation plans are for Carmeuse, we have an opportunity to
require that the changes to the rehabilitation plan ensures a net gain to our community.
Here are some of the features that other quarry rehabilitation plans include and should be included
in Carmeuse’s new rehabilitation plan.
-boat launches
-slope access to the water
-fishing and assorted recreational areas.
-walking trails
-swimming areas
Here is one example of all the vegetation that is to be planted according to one quarry
rehabilitation plan and should be included in Carmeuse’s rehabilitation plan.

Carmeuse application to amalgamate these three site licences should be turned down by the MNRF
unless the public have a full opportunity to have input to the rehabilitation plans and that
technical studies should be required to ensure that the 3 sites are safe and meet 2016 Provincial
and Federal laws and standards.
