Proposal details

This proposal is for the renewal of the Limited Operational Flexibility for Environmental Compliance Approval (air & noise) No. 7530-93ZKPV for Glencore Canada Corporation, a nickel-copper smelting facility located in the Sudbury, Ontario.

The emission sources from the manufacturing and associated processes that exhaust to the air include:

  • concentrate slurry feed preparation
  • roasting operation
  • the sulfuric acid plant
  • electric furnace operation
  • converter operation
  • matte granulating/crushing operations
  • custom feed preparation
  • calciner operations
  • all other equipment and ancillary and support processes and activities

Emissions to the air from this facility include:

  • hydrogen sulfide
  • hydrogen chloride
  • total particulate
  • iron
  • lead
  • nickel
  • nitrogen oxides
  • sulfur dioxide
  • other products of combustion

The Environmental Compliance Approval with Limited Operational Flexibility (air), when issued, permits modifications to the facility subject to limits on operational flexibility that include a production limit for the facility to be specified on the Environmental Compliance Approval with Limited Operational Flexibility (air).

The limited operational flexibility conditions have an expiry date. The company will be required to make an application for amendment at that time to renew these conditions.
