Bulletin summary

We have heard from stakeholders about the importance of improving regulatory processes to achieve better results for critical minerals exploration and development projects. An evaluation of the process to obtain a mining lease was completed. We implemented minor improvements to support claimholders with the mining lease process.

Why consultation isn't required

Under the Environmental Bill of Rights, this proposal does not require consultation as there are no anticipated potentially significant environmental impacts with the proposed amendment. The ministry is voluntarily posting this notice for information.

Bulletin details

The ministry analyzed the process to obtain a mining lease. The goal was to identify efficiencies, potential process improvements, and draft related guidance materials.

Minor efficiencies were found concerning digital document transfer improvements, improved internal access to data sources and enhanced internal project management processes. In addition, new guidance materials are currently being developed to improve public understanding of the process and to help with the preparation of taking a mining claim to lease.
