Decision details

Amendments to the  Ontario Water Resources Act (OWRA) made on April 1, 2020 removed the need for a permit to take water for the construction or operation of a dam for the purposes of generating electricity.

This activity no longer requires a permit and none was issued.

The ministry advised the applicant that no permit was required on August 26, 2020.

Description of instrument

This application from Valerie Falls General Partner Limited (part of the Brookfield Renewable Energy Group) is a renewal request for Permit To Take Water No. 4365-82URGT, which is scheduled to expire January 1, 2015. The water taking will be from the Seine River at Colin Lake for the purpose of hydropower production at the Valerie Falls Generating Station location in the Geographic Township of Freeborn, District Rainy River Ontario.
