I have concerns about the permit to dewater the area identified on the Port Elgin main beach. If it is necessary to remove such a large amount of water, it stands to reason that this land is not suitable for building on! What is the environmental impact of removing all this water and how will it be returned to the lake? Please explain! This is so typical of the town to proceed with plans that impact the enjoyment of the Lake Huron shore in the quiet of the winter, when tax payers who own seasonal residents are not present to ask questions and receive much needed information!! Planners need to wake up to the value of a natural beach area, clean lake and beautiful shoreline and not disturb it by building unnecessary structures. A much better use of money would be to look to examples in other waterside communities that have invested in making their beaches and waterfront areas attractive and enjoyable by doing things like by building pathways, boardwalks and areas for parking away from the beach. Effort should be invested in understanding and maintaining the natural beauty the Port Elgin beach, encouraging plants that are native to the area and will help preserve the beach and its dunes and in taking steps to ensure the beach and lake water are clean, safe and attractive to visitors - do this by investing in the maintenance of the beach and lake's natural beauty - not by building unnecessary structures that will attract extra cars, litter and noise.
