This approval is for the establishment of works for the treatment of sanitary sewage and subsurface disposal of treated effluent from the septic tanks servicing the non-profit residential housing complex at the above site location, rated at a maximum daily flow of 21,765 litres per day, consisting of the proposed works and existing works, which includes:

  • septic tanks
  • pump tanks
  • raised conventional filter media leaching beds:
    • with pipe runs of 76 millimetres diameter embedded in 300 millimetres deep washed septic stone area covered with a non-woven geotextile
    • the septic stone is underlain by a 750 millimetres deep filter media septic sand with a T value of = 6-8 minutes per centimetres
    • leaching bed to be topped with sand and local topsoil, finished with sod or seed

The appeal body will consider the following two questions in deciding whether to grant you leave to appeal:

  2. could the decision you wish to appeal result in significant harm to the environment?

Proposal details

This proposal is for a new Environmental Compliance Approval for 10 existing subsurface sewage works, with a total flow rate of 21,765 litres per day, servicing a non-profit residential housing complex located at 10 Maple Avenue in Elgin, Township of Rideau Lakes, Ontario.

The proposal includes the replacement of three of the existing sewage works at the site. The proposed replacement works include:

  • septic tanks
  • subsurface disposal beds

The ministry may require effluent monitoring and impose effluent limits.
