Effects of consultation

Comment was received from the City of Guelph. The City of Guelph commented that the location of the water taking was within the City's Wellhead Protection Area for Quantity. Under the Clean Water Act, a Wellhead Protection Area for Quantity identifies areas where water takings may impact municipal drinking water supplies under a variety drought and future land use scenarios. The City identified that polices for the management of water takings within the Wellhead Protection Area are being developed, and that the Permit Holder may be subject to water quantity policies in the future. The City of Guelph requested that the Ministry notify the Permit Holder that the permitted water taking may be subject to water quantity policies in the future. The City of Guelph also requested that the Ministry add a condition to the Permit to require the Permit Holder to provide a copy of the Annual Monitoring Report to the Municipality.

Ministry response:

In response to the City of Guelph's comment, the Ministry notified the Permit Holder that the location of the permitted water taking was within the Wellhead Protection Area for Quantity, and that policies for the protection of water quantity may apply to the water taking in the future. The Ministry also revised a condition in the Permit to require the Permit Holder to submit a copy of Annual Monitoring Report to the City of Guelph.
