Why consultation isn't required
This bulletin is for information only, as a closure plan amendment is not an instrument under the Environmental Bill of Rights, 1993. The Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry is posting this bulletin to the Environmental Registry to keep the public informed of changes to mining projects in Ontario. Bulletin details
The proposed changes to the project are as follows:
- administrative change – change of ownership: on April 16, 2021, proponent completed an internal reorganization in which proponent’s entire Windsor salt business was transferred to a new entity named Windsor Salt Ltd./ Sel Windsor Ltee (“NewCo”). Then, on April 30, 2021, SCIH Salt Holdings Inc. acquired NewCo from K+S Aktiengesellschaft
- updates to shaft caps, site (above and below ground) infrastructure, storm water management, surface and groundwater monitoring at closure, and progressive rehabilitation updates.
- new mine development, within filed closure plan boundary. Expected to extend the mine life by 50 years.
- increased production rates.
- updates to closure costs.
