Bulletin details
MTO recognizes the importance of new or existing vehicle technology, especially if it expands mobility options for Ontarians; however, safety remains a top priority.
The safe integration of new or existing vehicle types with pedestrians and other vehicles is a key consideration before any vehicle type will be allowed on-road.
Currently, Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act (HTA) does not allow urban mobility vehicles to be used on-road.
We are exploring the feasibility of a regulatory and policy framework regarding a pilot for the on-road use of urban mobility vehicles while promoting road safety and fostering economic growth by providing low-cost mobility alternatives, as well as supporting Ontario’s “Open for Business” initiative.
We are providing this notice to make the public aware that a proposal regarding a pilot for the on-road use of urban mobility vehicles has been posted on the Regulatory Registry for 45 days for public comment. The public is invited to review and comment on the proposal through the Regulatory Registry. To view the proposal, follow the link provided below.
