Effects of consultation

Comments relevant to the water taking proposal were considered as part of the review of the application.

The main concerns raised and the ministry's response are as below:

Concerns were raised regarding the environmental impacts and impacts to local residents.

Ministry's response:

As part of the renewal application, the ministry had directed Colacem Canada Inc. to undertake a hydrogeological assessment to assess the potential impacts of existing and future quarry operations on neighbouring groundwater supplies. The hydrogeological assessment includes a groundwater monitoring program for on-site wells (water levels and water quality) and contingency plans to respond to any significant changes in water levels that exceed a pre-determined target, or any water quantity interference complaints received from neighbours.

The ministry had also asked Colacem Canada Inc. to distribute letters to residents that live within a certain proximity of the L'Orignal quarry, advising them of their renewal application and to address any questions or concerns.
