The site is located 10 kilometers west of the Town of Listowel, northeast of the hamlet of Ethel and south of the hamlet of Molesworth.

The site is Aggregate Resources Act (ARA) licence No. 625365.  This site and the adjacent site, licence No. 626277, will be operated with one comprehensive site plan and one tonnage condition.

Three written comments were received through the Aggregate Resources Act consultation process. Concerns were related to hydrogeology, natural environment, impacts to surrounding wetlands and clarification to the site plan. These concerns were addressed through correspondence with the applicant and through revisions to the site plans. All concerns have been satisfied. A decision was made to proceed with the approval of this proposal.

Kurtis Smith Excavating Inc., has applied for a major site plan amendment to licence # 625365 to change the final depth of extraction from above the water table to below the water table. The final rehabilitation of the site will be a lake surrounded by naturalized area.

As specified in the Aggregate Resources Act, written notice concerning this application was delivered to landowners within 120 metres of the proposed licenced boundary; an information sign giving notice to the public of this proposed amendment was erected at the site. A Notice of Proposed Site Plan Amendment appeared in the Listowel Banner on March 14, 2018. A public information session was held at the Applicant’s office at 225 Industrial Park Drive, Brussels, Ontario, N0G 1H0 on April 3, 2018.

This proposal has also been circulated to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Guelph District, County of Huron, Municipality of Huron East, Maitland Valley Conservation Authority, Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks; and Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for comment.
