Decision details
Amendments to the Ontario Water Resources Act (OWRA) made on April 1, 2020 removed the need for a permit to take water for the construction or operation of a dam for the purposes of generating electricity.
This activity no longer requires a permit and none was issued.
The ministry advised the applicant that no permit was required on August 26, 2020.
Effects of consultation
A comment was received to clarify whether the water is contaminated during use, and if so, how the water is treated.
The ministry's response is that the quality of water does not change during the waterpower process so the water does not require any treatment.
