This notice was updated on January 13, 2021 to advise the public that there has been no change to the status of the proposal and it is still being considered. No additional opportunity for comment is being provided for at this time.
This notice was updated on March 26, 2018 to advise the public that this application under the Aggregate Resources Act is subject to the outcome of an Ontario Municipal Board hearing and is therefore, still under consideration. Please refer to http://elto.gov.on.ca/omb/ for information on scheduled hearings of the Ontario Municipal Board.
The proposal notice for this application was updated on January 26, 2016 to advise the public that this application under the Aggregate Resources Act has been referred by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) to the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) for a hearing.
Description of instrument
Glen Thompson has applied for a Class “A” licence to operate a Category 2 & 3 (quarry below water table & pit above water table) to excavate aggregate from an 81 hectare site.
This application is for the establishment of a new pit and a new quarry. The annual tonnage condition applied for is “unlimited” annual tonnage.

Site plan information is available to view at the MNR office in the town of Parry Sound at 7 Bay Street. Making an appointment to view the information is recommended to ensure aggregate staff will be available to provide information and answer questions.
Additionally, information related to this proposal is available to view at the Ryerson Township office located near Wisemans Corners on Midlothian Road, mailing address: RR#1, Burk’s Falls, Ontario, P0A 1C0.
Comments received through EBR should not be construed as an objection under the Aggregate Resources Act in accordance with section 4.0 – Notification and Consultation Standards of the Provincial Standards 1.0 under the ARA. To be considered as a formal objector, individuals need to contact the MNR person specified on this notice to determine how to submit an objection.
Other public consultation opportunities
As specified in the Aggregate Resources Act, written notice concerning this application was delivered to landowners within 120 metres of the proposed licenced boundary; an information sign, giving notice to the public of this application, was erected at the proposed site; and a Notice of Application appeared in the local paper, the Burks Falls Almaguin News on August 5th, 2010.
A public information session will be held on August 26th, 2010 between 6:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at the Young at Heart Seniors Citizen’s Club at 39 Copeland Street in Burks Falls (entrance off Young St.).
The application for this proposal is being circulated within the MNR Parry Sound District office. Additionally, notification of this application has been forwarded to the Township of Ryerson, the Ministry of the Environment, North Bay office, and the Department of Oceans and Fisheries, Parry Sound office for comment.
