UMICORE PRECIOUS METALS CANADA INC. - Environmental Compliance Approval (air)

This proposal is for an amendment to the Limited Operational Flexibility for an Environmental Compliance Approval (air & noise) No. 7150-8WPRGF for UMICORE PRECIOUS METALS CANADA INC., a melting and refining facility located in Markham, Ontario.

The application includes all sources at the facility, including:

• cold processing which consists of:
  • crushing
  • sieving
  • blending sampling and storing

The amendment includes an update the ECA for the previously approved furnace with new source parameters based on annual source testing data; add one new dust collector; and demonstrate compliance with section 20 of O. Reg. 419/05. Emissions to the atmosphere from this facility include:

• nitrogen oxides
• carbon dioxide
• benzo(a)pyrene, and
• nickel

The Environmental Compliance Approval with Limited Operational Flexibility (air), when issued, permits modifications to the facility subject to limits on operational flexibility that include a production limit for the facility to be specified on the Environmental Compliance Approval with Limited Operational Flexibility (air). The limited operational flexibility conditions have an expiry date. The company will be required to make an application for amendment at that time to renew these condition.
