The Hamilton Golf and Country Club should be practicing sustainable methods in maintaining their property instead of requesting a permit to take water from, wells, ponds, and Ancaster Creek. There are other sources of water that can be used, application of fertilizer can be reduced, alternative grasses can be planted and 75-150 ft native vegetative buffers should be planted along Ancaster Creek and the two dugout ponds so as to protect the water quality. Pumping of water from the wells could potentially lower the water table which may cause Ancaster Creek to dry up. Ancaster Creek is a cold water creek and its watershed contains significant species including rare, uncommon, and species at risk. This sheer amount of water is not required if they only implemented sustainable practices. This permit has been rated category 3 -"water takings are anticipated to have the highest potential of causing unacceptable environmental impactor interference". This is unacceptable and the water from the Ancaster Creek Watershed should be protected, and not abused or exploited.
