I am writing to register my objection to the proposed permit to Transition Metals Corp. to undertake early exploration activities at One Island Lake (ERO number 019-3249, Ministry Reference #: PR-21-000064).
According to the proposal, proponents are required to follow provincial standards for early exploration to minimize the impacts to public health, safety and the environment from early exploration activities. I have a number of concerns related to public health, safety and the environment stemming from this proposal as well as with any future mining action in this area.
My concerns include:
• Public health and safety
o Gilbride road is narrow and winding. Increased traffic on this road, including heavy equipment, is concerning and dangerous to the residents of the area.
o What will be the level of noise or disruption to surrounding residents for the duration of the exploration activities?
• Impact on environment
o Will water be pumped from One Island lake?
o How will this exploration minimize impact on wildlife in the area? This includes disruption from clearing prior to drilling, disposing of waste related to the exploration activities, and noise generated by exploration activities.
In addition to the items outlined above, I have concerns relating to the socio-economic impact of a mining presence around One Island Lake. Our camp is located in close proximity to the proposed exploration area and located within the bounds of the Saturday Night Project Outline. Our family worries for our quality of life out at the lake, the value of our property, and the future implications of successful exploration results.
Thank you for your consideration.
