I am extremely concerned that Bill 197 (COVID-19 Economic Recovery Act) gives power over Ontario land use to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, as directed by a Minister's Zoning Order.
By taking power away from municipal councils, thus from the local citizens who elected them, both our environment and our democracy are threatened.
This enhanced authority to completely override a municipality's site plan control forces consent even against local planning and environmental protections for sensitive lands.
The Minister and the Province are over-reaching their control!
