We are at a critical point in the climate crisis and the environmental risks associated with mining are too great today. Mining, and even the disruption caused by exploration, has enormous negative effects on water quality and puts the lives of millions of organisms at risk, from unique species of flora to large predators, as well as migratory birds. Old growth forested areas near Wolf Lake (some found nowhere else on Earth) are a shrinking refuge for wildlife and provide priceless carbon sinks. It's in our own best interest to protect this area.

Any exploration in First Nation territory should undergo strict consultation by Council leaders and as proven in British Columbia, there is strong and legally supported opposition to resource exploitation. Canada's indigenous leaders are our best protectors of the environment and their rights may not be violated. Has the Wolf Lake First Nation been consulted for this proposal?

Furthermore, tourism and environmental protection have proven to be a more economically viable means of supporting a region than resource exploitation. The opinion that leaving well enough alone so future generations may enjoy thriving natural settings is growing in popularity and makes logical sense.
