Please take every step possible to protect the Blanding's Turtle species. This turtle is struggling to survive in Ontario and has few places to call home. It is incredible that Ottawa has a wetland suited for this species, which should be celebrated rather than treated as a disposable piece of land. In addition, the Blanding's Turtle does not live in isolation from other species. To protect the Blanding's Turtle also means protecting the crayfish, frogs, and aquatic plants they eat. One does not exist without the other. I urge Richcraft Homes Ltd to be an ally of the Blanding's Turtle and each species it is connected to. I urge Richcraft Homes Ltd to be an ally of wetlands, recognizing that they may look different from a house, but they are still a home. This is opportunity to demonstrate how a corporation can provide homes for people, while maintaining the homes of non-human beings. These non-human beings are part of the Kanata Highlands community and deserve to live there alongside their human neighbours.
