The proposed quarry poses serious threats to the environment, as well as to the safety and quality
of life of the Dalton area residents. The site is located adjacent to a national park, in the heart
of a lush wetland home to a diverse range of species. Endangered species, species at risk and their
habitats, are present on and around the site. The proposed excavation would destroy the natural
habitat of these species, which would be devastating to their populations. Protecting this thriving
ecosystem should be a priority of the MNR. The presence of the Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands
Provincial Park affirms the value of the land, and the park will not be able to meet its objectives
with a quarry next door.
In addition to the detrimental effects the quarry will have on the environment and plant life, the
toxic silica dust that would result from the blasting poses a health concern to the local
residents. Though the presence of the quarry will have many impacts on the local community,
including noise pollution and traffic, the potential health risk of this dust must not be
overlooked. Furthermore, the local farmers depend on the area for their livlihood; their farms may
not be able to operate with the impact on the water table, the noise, dust, and traffic.
Please deny the quarry licence in defence of the environment, wildlife and local residents.
