I, like the vast majority of the residents in the proposed quarry area of Dalton Township are
alarmed that our beautiful area could be potentially devastated by this application if approved.
Each of the cottagers on Young’s Lake has a large investment in their summer/winter vacation
get-a-ways and now there is a potential for that to be destroyed. We continue to ensure the lake
and the surrounding environment is treated with respect so that our children and their children can
have the same enjoyment and a way of life. It seems to me that only a few will benefit while the
majority of us will see NO benefit to this quarry only destruction of the environment. There are a
wide range of concerns from noise pollution, silica dust causing air pollution, increased truck
traffic on a community road not designed for this type of traffic to what could be the greatest
potential for disaster that being the extraction from below the water table. The potential impact
on the local drinking water, environmental issues as it relates to nearby watercourses and the
impact on the Queen Elizabeth 11 Wildlands Provincial Park and its wild life. These areas of
concern are explained in greater detail in the many letters/emails that the MNR have received for
the residents.
The approval of this quarry will negatively and permanently affect the areas environment for many
years to come. There are no benefits only the potential for disaster.
