I am opposed to the application for amendment from Terrapure to allow municipal biosolids to be processed at their Brant Street facility. -This location is very close to residential neighbourhoods. The transport and processing of sewage sludge should not occur so close to homes. -The facility has being dormant for years, and according to what the company told residents at a community consultation meeting, they have no plans to upgrade the facility in any way. This causes serious concern to the community in relation to odour control and air pollution from the chemical processing required to turn the biosolids into fertilizer. -There are significant health risks from microbial pathogens associated with transporting and processing biosolids. We are extremely concerned about this type of activity happening in a sensitive use area by a company with a very poor record of safety practices. -The surrounding Community has already dealt with chronic odour issues from facilities in the area. We are always given assurances that these companies have proper odour control equipment or practices in place, but they don't. We are assured that a simple phone call or email to the ministry will address the problem, but that doesn't work either. We are left to deal with the constant odour problem, which has serious impacts on our ability to enjoy our daily lives. There is no reason to think that a biosolids processing facility in our community will not contribute to the burden of negative impacts the community already must deal with.
