Granting permission for the expansion of the local aggregate quarry raises significant concerns.
The increased fine particulate matter associated with quarry operations are linked to respiratory diseases, cardiovascular issues and premature mortality, with its proximately to a growing residential area, this is concerning.
Furthermore, insufficient taxation to compensate for road damage from the heavy trucks, and personal damage to rocks hitting passing vehicles should be considered.
The potential for a boom-and-bust economy are additional reasons to reconsider this proposal. The increased removal will quickly deplete the site.
Dufferin's stated depletion of other sites requiring this increase, raises questions about sustainable practices. Responsible resource management and a focus on sustainable alternatives should guide our decisions in the face of the ongoing climate crisis.
Approving this site sets a poor precedent that contradicts scientific consensus on mitigating the climate crisis and health of our communities. Please reconsider, or set strong legal binding requirements to mitigate these concerns.
