Hello.
I oppose Tomlinson’s proposal due to the health issues it will cause regarding air and water quality in our town. There will be a steady stream of trucks and dust as well as emissions from this company’s undertakings. There will be runoff.
I understand the need for readily available asphalt. However, we are residential. Thomlinson has other quarries NOT NEAR RESIDENTIAL AREAS FOR A REASON. There are many more suitable unoccupied quarries near 401 in this immediate area.
We are a quiet town and do not need to have our HEALTH COMPROMISED FOR TOMLINSON’S PROFIT OR ANY OTHER COMPANY’S PROFIT.
You will devaluate all of our properties in this town if they succeed in moving forward with their plans. Where does that leave us, unable to sell our life long property to get out from beneath the health threat and stench, in order to buy elsewhere so as to protect our health? HEALTH TRUMPS PROFIT FOR A PRIVATE COMPANY OR ANY COMPANY.
I am asking you to place our health above profit, and that includes the health of the multitude of children who attend schools here and are bussed here to do so. There are other asphalt plants that can serve this area and do. This quarry’s proximity to schools and downtown make it of danger to all of us.
From my reading, IT IS UNSAFE TO OUR HEALTH TO HAVE AN ACTIVE ASPHALT PLANT WITHIN A 3.6 KM RADIUS OF A RESIDENTIAL AREA. (Research is attached.) THAT RADIUS ENCOMPASSES BASICALLY ALL OF NAPANEE. No one has the right to put our health at risk. There are, as I have said, MULTIPLE unoccupied gravel pits that do not impinge upon residential spaces...and they are in easy proximity to 401 within this immediate geographic area.
Even with the standards of acceptance for emissions into our air or runoff into our river, this will make health conditions more tenable, especially for our population who may already be shouldering health issues. It will, over time, create new health conditions detrimental to ALL residents.
Our local hospital services accidents on 401, the entire medical needs of our community, and offers procedures to lessen the load on other major health centres in our area. We will not be able to draw physicians, nurses, and other health care specialists to our town, and we will lose who we have. No one wants to work or live in a stench or a health hazard, and medical professionals know the risk...and there will be. There is already a severe shortage of medical professionals everywhere.
Please place our health and lodging needs paramount and ahead of a business. Tomlinson can purchase another quarry for their asphalt that still neighbours 401. There are many that do, again in our immediate geographic area.
OUR TOWN COUNCIL UNANIMOUSLY REJECTED THIS PROPOSAL AND THEY TOOK THE EXTRA STEP OF STATING THAT WE ARE UNWILLING HOSTS. We are.
Thank you.
