I am in no way supportive of this application. I am one of 25 homes in Gormley that surrounds this facility. I have lived in the community for 60 years. Don Mills Steel started out as a transfer facility. I has now become a full fledged steel grinding and storage facility. It does not abide by safety rules -hence 3 major fires in 15 years the last two causes explosions that rock our homes and send huge plumes of black toxic smoke into the community. Recently they have added a steel crushing machine that is so loud we are unable to sit outside during the day. In fact while during COVID I have the option of working form home I cannot do so as calls are impossible to take given the noise.
This place and the Town of Whitchurch Stouffville have turned our community of Historic Homes into an industrial site.
This particular facility impinges on the green belt, causes noise, water and air pollution. Has huge fires that cause us to breathe toxic smoke for hours on end and contaminates the creek that drains into Berczy creek and the Rouge River. It runs the risk and in some cases has contaminated wells in the area. You simply cannot have this kind of facility in the midst of a community and in a rural area where quiet enjoyment of your home and protection from contamination is expected.

I have attached a photo of the 3rd fire at DM steel in sept 2020. this time the flames were high and explosion heard for over 2 hours. this is not appropriate so close to homes. I was scared and our grandchildren were in tears and they still call it "the WAR". this is wrong.

In no way should this facility be granted any license much less a license of further expansion of its unsafe services. it risks people, animals, the environment, historic homes and the Rouge River. why is this even being entertained??
