I am greatly concerned by the fact that the plan to reduce phosporous levels in Lake Simcoe addresses only the phosporous entering the lake through tributaries. Whereas the Simcoe County Conservation Authority has identified 60% of the phosphorous entering Lake Simcoe from airborne sources, why is there not a plan to monitor the emissions of rock dust from nearby rock crushing/mining industry, a known source of airborne phosporous? I also oppose that "Holland Marsh" is singled out for mention as an agricultural source of phosporous to Lake Simcoe when in fact it is proven to add only 1 or 2% to Lake Simcoe phosphorous levels. This is not the first time that I have brought this up with the Ministry, the federal government, Environmental Defence nor Ladies of the Lake. Therefore, it is my feeling that there is a will on the part of the Ontario government to cover up the true source of the bulk of the phosphorous in Lake Simcoe - industry - and instead put a disproportionate burden of blame and restitution on the shoulders of Holland Marsh, a negligible source of phosphorous for Lake Simcoe.
