The expansion of the meat packaging industry in a residential neighbourhood should have been a red flag to any city councilor or official. Not only is the area rapidly expanding with the some of the last affordable housing available to residents in the toronto area, it has a number of schools and areas frequented by children. How a corporation that is spreading harmful emissions and is knowingly detrimental to the environment is allowed, is not only suspicious, but clearly an agenda benefitting a select few. The residents nor their families that will grow up here, will not benefit from an ever expanding environmental threat or the loss of ever shrinking green space. Condos, shopping and small breweries have surrounded this meat packing industry in an effort to grow this community in a direction that we can all benefit from. Meat packing no longer belongs in our community and the residents who live here don’t want it polluting our community any longer.
