Our family lives very close by to this animal slaughterhouse and the stench that comes from is
disgusting and we can’t even enjoy a walk or run in the neighborhood, especially in the summer time
with the awful smell and heat combined. Our kids also goes to the public school nearby and they too
complain about the horrible smell that is generated by the slaughterhouse. When we bought the
house from the builder development 16 years ago, we expressed concerns of the slaughterhouses /
factories in the area, but we were told that they would be gone in a few years and the area would
turn into a full residential / business community. Unfortunately, St. Helen’s Meat Packers has
stuck around and they’re now requesting to expand their equipment / production?! We’re totally not
in favour of this request and would ask that the government consider issuing an order for the
company to relocate their business to outside of the city. This way our growing neighborhood can
enjoy a healthier and more air refreshing environment. With the slaughterhouse gone maybe there
won’t be any any more of those animal rights activists protesting in the area throughout the year.
I have friends asking me all the time, how can you stand living in the area with that awful smell?
I can’t but what can we do about it ourselves? Hopefully the government can intervene and help make
St. Clair West a better community to live in. Thank you for your consideration!
