Hello, I am a resident of Rockliffe Smythe along with my husband & 2 sons.
I am very concerned about the possibility of higher emissions from the St. Helen's Meat Packing
site, and I am quite worried by there being more air pollution!
Our area (which I broadly think of as Rockliffe-Smythe & South Weston) already has one of the
highest levels of asthma in the city of Toronto, and higher emissions would only aggravate this.
As an asthmatic myself (I am very active and fit but still needing medication) I am very bothered
by air quality issues, and I know I'm not alone.
I value the health of the community I live in, not just my own, and have noticed more & more young
families moving into our area, as it is one of the slightly-less-expensive areas of Toronto to live
in.
I worry that this means that as lower-income residents (compared to other parts of the city), we
will be overlooked with an assumption that we won't care or won't complain an added load of air
pollution.
It really isn't fair for more pollution to be added to our neighbourhood, and I sincerely hope that
the health of our families and residents will be seen as important, because it is!
Thank you.
