The Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks released the 2017 Minister’s Annual Report on Lake Simcoe. The report summarizes actions taken in 2017 to protect and restore Lake Simcoe, and the advice the Minister received from two advisory committees.
We amended Mining Lands Policies to support the implementation of a new electronic Mining Lands Administrative System (MLAS). The amendments reflect the functionality of the MLAS and legislative changes.
We have approved the amendments to the assessment report for the Hamilton source protection area and source protection plan for the Halton and Hamilton source protection areas. The amendments added a new and updated wellhead protection area in West Flamborough.
We have approved the amendments to the assessment reports and source protection plans for the Ausable Bayfield and Maitland Valley Source Protection Areas. The amendments update wellhead protection areas around 6 municipal wells, revise risk management policies for consistency and help with implementation.

We finalized species-specific policies (government response statements) outlining the actions we intend to lead and support to protect and recover five species at risk in Ontario: Blue Ash, Gypsy Cuckoo Bumble Bee, Kentucky Coffee-tree, Massasauga (Carolinian population) and Massasauga (Great Lakes – St. Lawrence population).
We have approved the amendments to the Source Protection Plan for the Saugeen-Grey-Sauble-Northern Bruce Peninsula Source Protection Region. The amendments add new wellhead protection areas for new wells in the municipality of Huron-Kinloss. The amendments also make changes to the policies to make them easier to understand and implement.
We finalized nine recovery strategies for species at risk in Ontario. We are starting pre-consultation on government response statements through a survey.
