This proposal is for a renewal of Permit to Take Water No. 0474-9LSH8T for dewatering purposes of the Cargill Quarry. Water will be taken from one sump at two different rates (1. initial rate - during the start of season to remove water that accumulated over the winter, and 2. maintenance rate - for on-going dewatering requirements for the remainder of the season) located in the Unorganized Township of Sulman, District of Cochrane, Ontario. Details of Water Taking are as follows:
Purpose of water taking: dewatering - pits & quarries
- source of water: Cargill Quarry Sump (initial dewatering)
- maximum rate (litres per minute): 2,720
- maximum number of hours of taking per day: 24
- maximum volume (litres) per day: 3,917,000
- maximum number of days of taking in a year: 45
- period of water taking: June 20 to August 3 for 10 years
Purpose of water taking: dewatering - pits & quarries
- source of water: Cargill Quarry Sump (maintenance dewatering)
- maximum rate (litres per minute): 500
- maximum number of hours of taking per day: 24
- maximum volume (litres) per day: 720,000
- maximum number of days of taking in a year: 90
- period of water taking: August 4 to October 10 for 10 years
There are 3 categories of a Permit to Take Water:
- Category 1: water takings are anticipated to have a lower risk of causing an unacceptable environmental impact/interference
- Category 2: water takings are anticipated to having a higher potential of causing unacceptable environmental impact or interference
- Category 3: water takings are anticipated to have the highest potential of causing unacceptable environmental impactor interference
The proposed water taking qualifies as a Category 1 permit.
