Effects of consultation

All received comments were reviewed and considered during the review process. All comments expressed concerns regarding potential contamination and adverse impacts to the groundwater and downstream surface water features resulting from the existing aggregate washing operations located at the existing Teedon Pit.

In order to address the received comments, CRH Canada Group Inc. agreed to construct a new recirculation pond cell lined with a synthetic liner (HDPE, or another material of equivalent or lower permeability) and conduct a well water monitoring program of five private wells surrounding the site.

Furthermore, CRH Canada Group Inc. agreed to the following conditions included in the ECA under the Operation and Maintenance Terms and Conditions:

  • 5.2 The Owner shall ensure that the automatic high-level float control installed in the sump (source) pond cell is installed and maintained at least 0.3 metres below the elevation of the sump (source) pond cell emergency overflow pipe.
  • 5.6 The Owner shall undertake weekly (once a week) during the operating season and monthly (once a month) during the non-operating season assessments of the condition of the upgraded sump (source)/recirculation pond perimeter containment berms. When appropriate, an assessment shall be conducted by a qualified Licensed Engineering Practitioner.
  • 5.7 The Owner shall undertake weekly (once a week) during the operating season and monthly (once a month) during the non-operating season visual inspections of the Works for potential spills, structural integrity of the perimeter containment berms and accumulation of sediment in the Works and undertake corrective measures, if necessary, to ensure continued suspended solids removal performance of the Works, with results recorded in a log book.
