Proposal details
This application is for an amendment to Environmental Compliance Approval No. A591104 for GFL Environmental for the waste transfer/processing facility located at 26 Haniak Road, in the Municipality of Oliver Paipoonge, Ontario. The facility currently serves the Province of Ontario for the transfer and processing of non-hazardous solid waste, non hazardous liquid industrial waste and hazardous waste.
This amendment is to:
- allow for two tanker trucks for a total capacity of 80,000 litres and four tractor trailers with a total capacity of 104,000 litres of liquid and solid wastes to be stored for 30-days
- allow for bulking of alike waste classes and allow waste to be removed from containers before shipping
- increase the maximum number of 205-litre drums from 176 to 2,000 for a maximum capacity of 410,000 litres for transfer and temporary storage located within the new drum storage facility
- increase the maximum number of 205-litre drums from 114 to 500 for a maximum capacity of 102,500 litres for transfer and temporary storage located within the Flammable Storage Building within the bermed area at the south side of the Site
- increase the maximum amount of wastes to be received at the site from 100 cubic metres per day with a mass equivalence of 100 tonnes per day to 5,000 cubic metres per day with a mass equivalence of 5,000 tonnes per day
- Increase the maximum amount of wastes to be received at the Site from 100 cubic metres per day with a mass equivalence of 100 tonnes per day to 1,000 cubic metres per day with a mass equivalence of 1,000 tonnes per day
- increase all tanks from one 46,500-litre primary recovery tank, one 46,500-litre secondary recovery tank and one 4,500 recovered product tank all associated with the processing of waste class 251 in accordance with the requirements of Condition 36 of this approval to 90,000-litre tanks for all of the aforementioned tanks and one additional 90,000-litre clean water recovery tank for processing up to 90,000 litres per day
- increase the maximum amount of wastes to be stored at the site from 960,000 litres to 3,032,500 litres of non-hazardous liquid industrial waste and hazardous liquid waste
- allow for a soil dewatering pad to be added to the site to allow for up to 175,000 litres of soils containment to be dewatered and later processed
- increase the sludge containment and processing bins (e.g. mixing bins) from 2 to a total of 8
- Increase the facility capacity, accept waste from anywhere in North America, and to add hazardous waste classes 221L and 221l
The site may operate 24 hours a day, 365 days per year and will service North America.
