Original proposal
Proposal details
Mefentrifluconazole is a new pesticide ingredient contained in the following end use products: Cevya (Reg. No. 33405), Maxtima (Reg. No. 33406), that are proposed for classification in Ontario.
Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) assesses pesticides for their risks to human health and the environment, and examines the efficacy and value of pest control products in registering products under the Pest Control Products Act for sale and use across Canada.
In Ontario, the Pesticides Act and Ontario Regulation 63/09 stipulate that federally registered pesticides must be classified in Ontario before they are legal for sale and use.

The Ontario Pesticides Advisory Committee (OPAC) has recommended that above two mentioned end use products, containing the new active ingredient mefentrifluconazole, be classified as a Class 2 pesticide based on its hazard criteria for soil persistence.
Class 2 pesticides are federally designated as restricted or commercial products, and are very hazardous for use by licensed exterminators and/or certified growers who are trained and knowledgeable in their use.
Mefentrifluconazole is a conventional fungicide active ingredient that works by inhibiting spore germination, mycelial growth, and sporulation of the fungus on the leaf surface. It controls or suppresses economically important diseases of turf grass on golf courses, on crops and plants specified on product label. This active ingredient meets the criteria for Class 9 pesticides. Class 9 includes pesticide ingredients for use only under exceptions to the ban (see sections 17 to 33 of Ontario Regulation 63/09 made under the Pesticides Act.
