The 27 hole Hamilton Golf and Country Club has submitted a request to the Environmental Registry of Ontario (ERO) to renew their Permit to Take Water for commercial (irrigation) purposes, 4.2 Million m3 of water per year for the duration of the 10 year permit. It is not known how much would actually be taken. By comparison, Hamilton's Chedoke Golf course with 36 holes, has used an average of 49,161 m3 of water per year since 2019.

Why is this golf course requiring so much water? Our water resources are not infinite. Locking into a ten year contract with an organization that is squandering water is not good water and land management. 4.2 m3/year is excessive. Climate change requires better long term planning.

Please ask the Hamilton Golf and Country Club to drastically reduce their estimated use of water before signing a binding agreement for a much reduced quantity of water. Traditional and innovative water conservation strategies need to be a high priority.

We all need to share our resources with local wildlife, greenery, citizens and other organizations.
