I am a year round resident of Saugeen Shores, where the subject of this proposal will be situated. My concerns are:
1) Environmental impact on a natural beach area. This dewatering is very close to Lake Huron. Will taking ground water out of this area so close to the beach cause destabilization?
2) The amount of water being proposed seems like a lot. But will it be enough to get the site dry enough? Won't it just keep filling in with lake water? I have seen this small scale when my kids build sandcastles there.
3) I am concerned with where they will put the "dewatered water"? Does it get dumped back into the Lake? This is concerning as rather than having runoff water filtered naturally through the sand, it will be collected and dumped, presumably, into the lake.
4) The length of time they are asking for this is 3 years! This sounds very excessive as the planned construction time frame proposed by the town is much shorter than 3 years. Having a need for this for 3 years indicates a rather large project being built on fairly wet lands. That may become less stable due to moving water/changing water table in proposed area.
5) I am concerned about what it will do to marine life in surrounding area and area where water will get dumped? Such as destroying fish habitat, waterfowl habitat, bird habitat by changing the flow of water, which will change the water saturation of the beach area, which can lead to disrupted habitat.
