Sheffield St is a complete mess with Optimum operating at 799 tonnes/day. Increasing to 2400/tonnes per day will be extremely unfavourable to neighbouring properties and the entire community as a whole.
Does the increase in tonnage mean they will store 2400 tonnes on-site daily? How often will they be hauling trucks out? Shouldn't this information be available?
What will happen to the street?
1) Transportation
They already have trucks lined up down the road creating a serious and dangerous path for drivers passing by. How will they manage the increase of waste intake with respect to vehicle traffic?
Vehicles block neighboring driveways. How would this increase in vehicle traffic be fair to the businesses in the area?
2) Garbage spill off
There is already so much residual garbage left on the street from vehicles entering and exiting the property. This will only increase with increased traffic.
3) Health Implications
What will the health implications be of this increase? Has anyone ever looked into the air quality at this current tonnage let alone the increase? There should be the utmost consideration on this issue. Our air quality is at risk.
4) Environmental impact
This is a major consideration given the current state of the environment. What are they doing to protect our environment? Spillage and waste are leaching into the groundwater and contaminating other properties. How will they take measures to identify any potential issues and what preventative measures have they/will they take.
5) Smell
The stench at the current capacity is awfull. How will they address the smell from all the additional waste?
6) Lack of dust control
The lack of dust control is concerning to all nearby neighbors. neighbours already deal with continuous clogged air filters on HVAC units and constant maintenance required. Cars are filthy with dust in just a few hours. This is a serious problem. Additionally, If any asbestos-containing materials are disposed of on-site they have no way of tracking this. That combined with the lack of dust control means there is a serious threat of airborne asbestos particles. It will only get worse with increased tonnage.
7) Rodent Control
How will they address the increase in rodents? There is already a major rat problem at the property that has spilt over to neighbouring properties.
8) Fire Control
What fire alarm/sprinkler systems do they have in place. There have been over 3 fires resulting in fire trucks being dispatched on-site this year alone. How will they ensure proper fire safety measures are being taken? This is a serious problem for any neighboring property. Not only for the risk of fire spreading but also the contamination risk of potential garbage being burned.
Thank you for considering this comment.
Sincerely,
A concerned citizen
