I just read about the absurd amount of water that the Hamilton Golf & Country Club (HGCC) wants to remove from our natural water stores in Hamilton - millions of cubic metres! This is just wrong.
When other local golf courses are using under 50,000 m3 and that amount of 'very unnecessary' water use could harm the public in future years, the request from the HGCC should automatically be refused.
We are in a climate EMERGENCY! Hamilton has experienced some severe droughts in recent summers too. The moisture our city receives varies a great deal in different summers, so we can't have a golf course getting priority over what adds to everyone's drinking water source here. That's crazy.
I visited Australia once and they have golf courses with NO water or vegetation on them. They use dirt and sand with finer sand for the putting areas. We could learn a great deal from other countries about how to play golf without water or even grass. Let's get our priorities straight, please?
We can't ever learn to survive without potent water in our city! Say no to this ludicrous request from the wealthiest part of our region. The average person deserves at least this much this respect!
This is what some people call, 'a no brainer', and in fact, I'm shocked that someone didn't just say "NO" in the first place. My taxpaying family expects no less, please.
