The Ring of Fire must not be explored or mined despite the allure of the minerals that will bring wealth to a few and address the need for minerals for the expansion of electric cars. Read this article on CBC as to the dangers of exploring even just a bit in the sensitive peatlands of the Ring of Fire area of Northern Ontario: see the link below.

If the whole point of switching people off of high carbon polluting vehicles and getting them into zero carbon electric cars is to reduce the amount of carbon and methane pollution in our atmosphere, then digging for the minerals in this super sensitive area, with peatlands storing over a billion tonnes of CO2, is just wrong headed thinking. We do need to electrify our ride, however, if this government would focus on public transportation instead of emphasizing personal vehicles, then fewer minerals would be required overall and we'd win by actually reducing emissions instead of seeing net gains in overall CO2 emissions because of where we greedily and unthinkingly choose to mine.
