As a concerned citizen, a member of the Port Elgin Beach Preservers, and a steward of the environment, I am very concerned about the proposed project on the Port Elgin beach, and the proponent's application for de-watering the beach. Removing this amount of water will undoubtedly have detrimental environmental effects. Fish and waterfowl will be impacted. Digging up a beach that has been used as a parking lot will stir up a lot of pollutants (gas, oil.) Furthermore, not only will the relic sand beach itself be impacted, a gem of a beach that has been enjoyed for generations, but the noise and potential pollutants from the de-watering process will impact adjacent properties. Where would the water be taken to? This is a case of humans messing around with mother nature. We know better. There will be environmental consequences that will be irreversible.
There has not been any kind of environmental impact study regarding the proposed development, so until the general public is satisfied that this has been carried out it is presumptuous that the proponent is applying for de-watering at this time.
Thank you for listening.
