I feel the amendments applied for by Triple M Metal should be denied. The model used to calculate emissions appears to be flawed. The particulate matter cannot possibly be as low as indicated. I do not live in the adjacent neighborhood but in a neighborhood southwest of this area. When the air is from the northeast the air in our area is quite often bordering on poor. Does this facility actually monitor the emissions currently? The cumulative effects of this facility plus other industry are negatively affecting the health of not just this adjacent neighborhood but much of the lower city.
If this model is a best case scenario then the contaminants manganese and iron oxide would most certainly be in an unacceptable range in real world circumstances.
I have family who live in the neighborhood adjacent to Triple M Metal and things have changed in the past number of years. We are all aware of the industry but things have got grim. It’s very grimy, dust on everything. Very often it smells like iron or burning rubber. There is no way that this can be conducive to good health.
The noise abatement action plan is inadequate, a proper noise reduction system should be required as piles of scrap metal are not proper or permanent sound barriers.
