THE COMPANIES :

Should establish required heights for ‘storage piles’ does not constitute proper noise abatement. The company should be required to install proper noise control walls/ barriers in locations where such controls are warranted.

The storage piles :
assuming are made up of scrap metal or related material – for noise abatement does not provide the necessary permanent assurances for surrounding businesses and residents that noise will be properly controlled on an on-going basis.

The recommended height for Storage Pile #1 is 8m – well beyond the Ontario Fire Code’s 10 foot height limit for scrap yard piles that may contain combustible materials.
requirement for storage pile height to mitigate noise impacts could be introducing a fire risk at the site if the storage piles include combustible material.

– American Iron & Steel (AIM) has been required to install properly engineered noise abatement systems (not storage piles) and the same should be required for Triple M.
The more they want , the more they get , but our community has no rights at all.
We are still waiting for the acoustic sound barrier wall now over 3 years and counting @ ( AIM )

The facility’s operations should be restricted to the hours between 7am and 11pm in order to address noise impacts in the area. The noise abatement plan does indicate that certain equipment and activities – including shredder operation, slag metal recovery activities, iron slag dropping, and rail car shunting - will be restricted to these hours

We request that the Ministry of Environment add a condition to the company’s air & noise permit that formalizes these operational restrictions.
These companies are already exceeding the noise levels , why should they be allowed to ask for higher reading , so they can exceed them as well . Never mind the competition between the companies for the noise and the air pollution .
We thought the Ministry Of The Environment was here to help us " peoples " in the community safe . No help the companies do what they think they should have .

Our community is suffering with the horrific noise , never mind the discus ting air quality hovering over us day and night , it is causing so many health issues with so many of us eg : people and pets including cancer.
We have to wash everything on the enclosed patio in our back yard every morning and sometime 2 or 3 times a day .
We run our air conditioner all summer , so I don't get so much of this dirt inside our home .

Also with the explosions we get are causing our house to shake , it wakes us up in the middle of the night things falling of shelves and breaking the seal in our windows , We can't keep replacing them , the cost factor is horrible , we have already replaced 5 and have another 6 windows that need to be replaced.
We in this community feel The Ministry Of Environment :
should have the company to actually MONITOR and measure air pollution levels from the facility rather than just estimating using a computer.
Further more The Ministry should add conditions ,
to the company’s air & noise permit that formalizes these operational restrictions
As part of this ,(" which used to be a beautiful community") NOT SO MUCH ANYMORE .
We feel that these companies should not be asking for new permits , they should be moving out of the city not near residential areas, which should never been allowed in the first place .
THESE COMPANIES SEEM TO GET WHATEVER THEY ASK FOR BECAUSE ???????
We as resident in this community are just tax payers , so we take what every is thrown our way . We are not big enough to worry about .
