The developer is proposing the following:
Managing the seasonal trailer park site through a condominium-style agreement to ensure that future owners of trailer sites are prohibited from negatively impacting Butternut or its habitat (without obtaining an appropriate authorization under the Endangered Species Act); and
- Ensuring that non-species at risk trees are removed in such a way that will reduce environmental exposure (e.g. wind damage) to Butternuts that are retained on site;
While the developer implies this site will be managed through a condominium corporation style agreement implying property owners will be educated and have obligations to preserve butternut on site and surrounding native vegetation this development is not a managed condominium corporation but rather a time share resort where trailers are rented to anyone. Most not familiar with the issue with the butternuts please see the following link on Bellemeres website:
Rent a cottage at Bellemere winds golf resort in the Kawarthas Today https://bellmerewindsgolfresort.com/rent/ Stay and Play Golf packages
Thus is this development really a private managed condominium community where residents have an invested interest in preserving the natural environment protecting species at risk and adhering to rules set by the condominium corporation or a time share golf resort.
Please ask the developer how many condominium corporations permit renting out of units, and whom is on the condominium board and enforces their by laws ?
Given we know the above is a false pretense meant to imply there will be an overall benefit to the species the MNR should prescribe a minimum distance separation to the native butternut on site and have the developer redesign accordingly.
Also please investigate how many butternuts have been removed from the site already in the construction of the golf course and existing trailer park and what remedial measures where taken to replant protect those trees. As before moving forward remediation of existing issues created should occur.
Also what are Hiawatha and Alderville First nations view through consultation on this issue.
