I am a wildlife biologist that has been specializing in herpetology for almost a decade. I support all the actions to minimize adverse effects and achieve an overall benefit to Butler’s Gartersnake and Eastern Foxsnake-Carolinian population outlined in the permit submitted by Piroli Construction Inc. I think all mitigation and overall benefit activities listed should be completed, as well as maintaining ecopassages and fencing installed at road mortality hotspots as outlined in Best Management Practices documents. Maintenance of mitigation structures is essential for their long-term success and is mentioned in a number of provincial documents found on this webpage: https://www.ontario.ca/page/species-risk-guides-and-resources.
