Permit to take water-5445-ATMM95. We have been full time residents for 15 years on the very small and shallow Marion Lake that Port Carling Golf Club draws its water from. Unlike most lakes in Muskoka, our lake has no source for water inflow and the effect the golf course water taking has on our lake's shorelines and ecosystems is devastating. When the Golf Club's 10 year water taking permit came up for renewal 2 years ago, we all had the opportunity to object, which we did with many photos and evidence of the negative environmental impact the water taking has on the shorelines. The parameters of the original permit made absolutely no sense from a volume perspective and the subsequent devastation to our shorelines and ecosystems ensued. The Golf Club was issued a 2 year renewal in 2017 CONDITIONAL on having a water level management program in place agreed to by the RESIDENTS of the lake. This has not occurred, there was no water level management agreed to, yet they have again applied for a 3 year renewal of the same permit, taking the same detrimental volumes. This is ludicrous and makes no sense. I also find it offensive that they are submitting their application over the Christmas holidays hoping that nobody notices. In our opinion, our position remains the same - Marion Lake does not have the capacity to supply the Golf Course with any water as it does not have the ability to replenish itself. They are killing our lake and the habitats within it and I am not sure the Ministry is in the business of killing small lakes.
