This proposal is of great concern to this area. There is already a very significant traffic problem in the area because of the number of GFL trucks on the public roads. Doubling the volume will create complete gridlock and dramatically increase travel times and adversely affect the local businesses.
The only way that this proposal can possibly be accommodated is by creating the Ingram Dr. extension that has been approved by the City of Toronto Transportation Department. This will of necesssity require the creation of an underpass which will require support from Metrolinx since the underpass is designed to accommodate the Barrie-Toronto Metrolinx line.
It may be feasible to consider the creation of a separate road for the GFL trucks to enter the Ingram transfer station and the current facility at Ingram and Kincort. If this is considered, then GFL might reasonably be asked to contribute to the construction of a separate road for their trucks.
Unless these accommodations can be implemented, the current proposal will be an unmitigated disaster for an area in Toronto that aspires to be a design district and has attracted new businesses of higher quality. This proposal as it stands will undoubtedly reverse that positive trend.
The newly proposed BIA for this area will fiercely oppose the proposal as it now stands.
