My family resides in Ward 5 York-South Weston (formerly Ward 11) of the City of Toronto. The
proposal to amend an environmental compliance approval to allow for St.Helen's Meat Packers Ltd.'s
to use polluting and odour emitting sources is irresponsible, insensitive, and reckless. The
amendment, if approved would permit odour and polluting emitting sources immediately adjacent to
several residential homes as well as schools in the area. The recognition of contaminants emitted
to the atmosphere including chlorine dioxide, lactic acid, nitrogen oxides, noise, and odour should
be suffice to understand that the proposed development is inappropriate for the area. While I
understand that the levels and risks studied by consultants may be low and found not to pose any
concerns to nearby residents, it simply does not make any sense given the current land uses in the
immediate area. Stakeholders including the City of Toronto, Government of Ontario, and various
other governmental agencies have a crucial role in protecting the health, wellbeing, and safety of
residents with respects to this proposed development and others in the province that threaten the
livelihood of communities. Further, the amendment to the environmental compliance approval would
only add to the environmental concerns and issues pressing the community already such as seasonal
flooding, noise and odour from other industrial/commercial uses including those from St. Helen's
Meat Packers Ltd. It is in my opinion that this proposal is to amend Environmental Compliance
Approval (Air) No. 8-3124-81-006 for St. Helen's Meat Packers Ltd. not be approved given the above
noted.
