Commenting on the Terrapure Brant Street facility. Members of our community attended an open house with Terrapure and found the information to be very useful. The technology is innovative, and we all support the concept of developing different ways of diverting waste from the landfill. The problem is with the location - near a residential area, a park, schools, and a business district. The potential of the smell coming from two truckloads per day of human waste is not acceptable to residents, and everyone was concerned about any bacteria or other potential toxins that could be a health risk. We've dealt with a compost facility gone wrong (also in a residential area) that literally stunk up half the city with the smell of rotting food. This one doesn't sound any better. The downtown area of Hamilton is not a place for waste disposal.
