The expansion proposal is for an area that contains the headwater source of the Alliston Aquifer. On this basis alone a government that respects the need to protect the drinking water of current and future generations would deny this application. The Alliston Aquifer provides water for many Ontario communities.

However, one current and compelling reason to deny this expansion is that activity now being carried on by parent company Dufferin Aggregate on the same site is already impacting the wells of local people within the vicinity and affecting water quality. Many concrete instances of this have been submitted and deserve priority in any decision.

The water in this area is of exceptional purity according to world renowned water experts, eg. Dr. John Cherry, Dr. W. Shotyk, and the gravel in French's Hill now being extracted by Dufferin and as proposed by Cedarhurst is a critical component in the production of this pure artesian water.

In lieu of a comprehensive water protection and conservation strategy for Ontario, similar to that other countries such as Poland have in place, this government at the very least should insist on an environmental study conducted by bona fide experts due to the critical nature of the application made for such an important and sensitive area where damage is already apparent.
