I was surprised to learn that an application has been submitted to further expand the dumping of raw sewage at this property on Cragg Road. I have been aware that some dumping has occurred on the property for several years. It is back from the road but I have observed many trucks being emptied and had some knowledge that the material is to be tilled into the ground. I have never seen anyone tilling the material into the ground. This application would essentially turn a large part of this property into a dump site for raw sewage. That simply seems ridiculous. Sadly, this is just another abuse of the agricultural farmland that is becoming so prevalent in rural Ontario. Within 5 kms of this site we have seen a large industrial solar facility constructed on class one farmland which was approved based on a technicality in the municipal by-law. We have also seen a major contaminated fill site at Greenbank Airport. The proponent and the municipality are engaged in litigation over the remediation of the site. Turning farm fields into dump sites for sewage is incomprehensible when there is capacity at sites which are designed to handle the materials. Having worked on the issues related to the solar facility I am aware of the stream running through the property as well as the issues surrounding the aquifer and soil. I will take time to do more research but I urge you not to further expand this operation. The Greenbank Airport is a perfect example of the harm that can be done when the responsible parties in government don't get involved and do the right thing. I urge you to do the right thing.
